Back in the mid 1990’s, God began a vision in the heart of Harrison and Sandy Spitler to plant a church that would plant other churches locally and around the world.  It was a vision to see come to know the awesome love, power, and grace found in Jesus Christ.  They began to pray for God to equip them and open doors in his timing.  After joining with a local body and through much prayer, Grace Community Church was planted in South Charlotte.

South Charlotte is a relatively new area, but thousands of people move to the area every year.  It is a diamond shape including Ballantyne on the north, Weddington on the east, Fort Mill on the west, Waxhaw to the south, and Marvin in middle.  In 2002, 80,000 newcomers had filled the area, and not a single church had been planted.

On Sunday, January 4th, 2003, GCC began meeting with a small group of people.  11 couples were from the mother church, Christ Covenant in Matthews, and 11 couples were either new believers in Christ or had just moved to the area. God blessed the young church with some great leadership and GCC began Sunday morning worship on Easter, April 20th, 2003.

Since the beginning God has done amazing things in and through Grace.  In 2004, GCC planted a church in Nkokonjeru, Uganda and conducted medical clinics, soccer clinics and held evangelistic crusades in the village.  In 2005, GCC joined an ongoing mission partnership with a team in Bulgaria and South Africa.  GCC also joined with other churches in 2005 to begin a Hispanic church in Monroe, NC.

Currently the church is growing and seeking to continue its impact on the greater Marvin area for the glory of God.
